Live Trivia is the phones-in-hands trivia showdown: every student answers on their own phone against a countdown, faster correct answers score more, and a live leaderboard keeps the room loud between questions.
Building Your Game
Create a new Live Trivia document from the Feature Library and add questions — each with up to 5 answers (one correct), an optional fun fact revealed with the answer, and an optional custom point value. Or click the AI generate button and create a full question set from a topic, audience, and difficulty (review everything before adding — AI can be wrong).
Live Game Settings shape how the game plays:
- Time Limit — Seconds per question (default 30, from a blitz 5 up to 120).
- Max Points — What an instant correct answer is worth (default 1000). Correct answers earn points based on speed; wrong or missed answers earn zero.
- Player Names — Allow Custom Names (typed names, content-moderated) or Random Names Only (everyone gets a fun generated name they can reroll).
- Show Player Names in Lobby — Scroll joining names on the display as students connect.
- Randomize Answer Order — Shuffles answers every game.
Display Options covers the Theme, Title Graphic, and Background.

Running the Game
- Press play. The display shows the lobby with the join QR; students scan, enter a name, and appear in your player list (you can remove anyone from the lobby).
- Click Start Game. Each question runs on a countdown while you watch how many have answered.
- Reveal Answer shows the correct answer and fun fact — on the display and on every phone, along with each player’s own result and points.
- Show Leaderboard puts up the top five, then Next Question keeps it rolling.
- After the last question, Show Final Results crowns the winner on screen.
You can also jump to any question mid-game, and End Game (with confirmation) stops everything early.
What Students See
Join and name entry, a “You’re in!” waiting screen, answer buttons with a ticking timer bar, an “Answer locked in!” confirmation, their result and points after each reveal, and their final rank at the end. Their running score stays pinned on their screen the whole game.
Tips
- Speed scoring changes strategy — students learn fast that a quick educated guess beats a slow certainty. Say the scoring rule out loud before question one.
- Shorter time limits (10–15s) keep energy high for easy questions; give hard ones more room.
- Already built a classic Trivia document? Right-click it and Duplicate to Live Trivia — same questions, live format.
